Toccata Classics has announced the release of English composer, musicologist, author and pianist Peter Dickinson‘s new album, ‘Peter Dickinson: Chamber and Solo Works’.

Recorded with violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved, pianist Roderick Chadwick and the Kreutzer Quartet, the disc features Peter Dickson’s Violin Sonata, ‘Air‘, ‘Fantasia‘, ‘Quintet Melody‘ and ‘Metamorphosis‘ for Violin, 1st and 2nd String Quartets, Violin Concerto – and ‘Unicorns‘ for Violin & Piano.

“My First Quartet, the ‘Fantasia’ for Solo Violin and the Violin & Piano Sonata are a forthright response from a young Englishman to the New York scene around 1960 – during the three years I lived there … the other pieces from various periods are gentler … ” Peter has this week told The Violin Channel.

“Some of these early pieces may seem challenging but I hope listeners may respond to the exhilaration I derived from writing them a time when they were at the cutting edge of new music … ” the 85-year-old has said.

“The later pieces show the diversity of styles which characterize my work in the following decades.”
