Legendary violinist Donald Weilerstein and pianist Vivian Hornik Weilerstein performing the world premiere performance of violinist and composer, VC Young Artist Luke Hsu’s: ‘For Violin and Piano’.

Recorded live on October 20th, 2019 – at the New England Conservatory’s Brown Hall, in Boston, as part of the ‘Food for Music‘ series.

“I promised my former teacher, Don Weilerstein, a graduation gift in the form of a duo for violin and piano written for him and his wife, Vivian Weilerstein … ’ Luke, a Masters degree graduate from the New England Conservatory, has told The Violin Channel.

“My idea was to create the many intimate dialogue possibilities between two very different instruments … I created something where the dialogues start strongly and as the piece moves on, they start to disintegrate … at the very end of the piece, the dialogues become silence …” Luke has told The Violin Channel.

“I find it interesting that when things dissolve into silence, the silence speaks more than the music … so throughout the piece, there’s tension between sounds and silence …” the former major prize winner at the Paganini, Michael Hill, Carl Nielsen, Wieniawski and Indianapolis International Violin Competitions has said.

“I want the audience to feel what I felt while writing this piece … I invite them to my sound and musical world and be attuned to how they react to it.”
